About this experience
Get off the beaten track on a calm, leisurely ride of about 12 km from Galle. You meet at the tour operator's residence at 8:30 am for the morning session or 2:30 pm for the afternoon, where you get a briefing, bottled water, a helmet and a city or mountain bike to suit your size. Your English-speaking local guide then leads you along small dirt and gravel roads to a village set beside a lagoon and mangroves rich in endemic plants and wildlife, where locals go about their day in the small industries that support their livelihoods. Ask your guide about the local flora and fauna and the culture of the south as you ride.
After circling the lagoon you ride a short way along the main road and stop for a refreshing king coconut before heading back to the start. The tour takes about two and a half to three hours, or longer depending on your pace. A bike for your size, a helmet, a local guide, water and refreshments, and all government taxes and service charges are included; food and drinks, gratuities and personal expenses are not. Children under 12 pay half the rate and baby seats are provided free for ages 1 to 3. Confirmation comes within 48 hours of booking, and please arrive 15 minutes before your start time.
