The work was created by Sibyl Wettasinghe, the Sri Lankan artist and writer of children's stories. It first appeared in Sinhala as Kurulu Pawula; this is the Tamil translation of that original, carrying the title Kuruwik Kudumbam.
Wettasinghe wrote and illustrated for children over a long working life, and her picture books are familiar to generations of Sri Lankan households in Sinhala. Translations such as this one carry the same stories across to Tamil-speaking readers on the island and abroad.
