This is the second book in L.S.E. Amararatne's Kumarodaya series, a set of Sinhala language readers that has been used to teach the language to Sri Lankan children over decades of schooling.
The text has been edited to suit present-day needs, under the guidance of an advisory panel of scholars headed by Professor Kusuma Karunaratne.
The book is written entirely in Sinhala. There is no English text and no parallel translation, so a reader will need to be literate in Sinhala, or be learning it with the help of someone who is. International buyers ordering for a child abroad should keep that in mind: this is a classroom reader produced for Sinhala-medium learners, not a Sinhala-for-foreigners primer.
It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, the Colombo publishing and bookselling house, which issues educational and general titles in Sinhala and English. Families in the diaspora keeping up their children's Sinhala at home are a natural readership for it, alongside schools and teachers working with the series.
