A Sinhala picture book for young children, written and published for readers in the primary grades. The text is set in large type and runs short, which is the point: it is meant for children who are still finding their way through a page on their own, or being read to a little at a time. Colour illustrations carry much of the telling.
It belongs to a newer series of children's stories by Sybil Wettasinghe, one of Sri Lanka's best-loved writers and illustrators for children, whose work in Sinhala has been read by generations of Sri Lankan families. The drawings here are her own, in the style readers of her books will recognise.
Please note that the book is entirely in Sinhala. There is no English text and no parallel translation, so buyers outside Sri Lanka should be confident of reading Sinhala, or be buying for a household where someone can read it aloud. For Sri Lankan families abroad, books like this one are often the first thing a child encounters in the language, and the large print and short text make it manageable for a beginner.
