The familiar English folk tale — the boy, the handful of beans, the stalk that climbs out of sight overnight — retold here for young readers in simple English by Priyangwada Perera.
The book belongs to a series of fairy tales produced by M. D. Gunasena for children in Sri Lanka. Each is issued with a hardbound cover and colour illustrations throughout, so the pictures carry much of the story for a child who is still finding their way through the words. The language is kept plain and the telling short, which suits reading aloud as much as it suits a child reading alone.
Suitable for a home shelf, a classroom or a gift for an early reader, and of interest to families abroad who want English storybooks produced in Sri Lanka rather than imported editions of the same tales.
