A collection of stories about women held inside the boundaries of social expectation and customary life — women carrying love they could not claim and hopes they set aside, and weeping over them privately. The pieces are drawn from the real experiences of women Chandrika Lekamwasam met, experiences those women had not spoken about openly, and many of them involve mental and emotional strain of one kind or another.
Lekamwasam wrote the book while working in a bank and running a household as a mother, and the encounters behind these stories came out of that ordinary working life rather than out of research. What she offers readers is an invitation: to stop for a moment in the middle of their own hurry and look back at life from a different angle.
Please note that this book is written entirely in Sinhala. There is no English text, so it will suit readers who are comfortable reading Sinhala prose — Sri Lankans abroad keeping up their reading in the language, families passing books on at home, and students or scholars of contemporary Sinhala writing.
It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, a long-established Colombo publishing house that issues books in Sinhala and English.
