An English-language title from Godage International Publishers, a long-established Colombo house that publishes across Sinhala, Tamil and English and keeps a broad list of Sri Lankan fiction, poetry and general writing in print.
Yagarani Thevathasan is a Sri Lankan author writing in English. Books of this kind are produced primarily for readers at home, and copies rarely travel far beyond the island's bookshops through ordinary trade channels.
Because it is written in English, no translation is needed for readers abroad — useful for members of the Sri Lankan and Tamil diaspora who want contemporary writing from the island in a language the whole household can read, and for anyone building a collection of English-language work published in Colombo rather than in London or New York.
Readers who follow small-press Sri Lankan writing, and libraries and collectors assembling holdings of locally published English titles, are the natural audience here.
