A retelling of the Hansel and Gretel story for children, prepared by Priyangwada Perera and published in English as part of the M. D. Gunasena Fairy Tales series. The text is accompanied by illustrations throughout.
The series sets out to put familiar fairy tales back into children's hands in fresh retellings, with the brother and sister lost in the forest, the house in the woods and the witch forming the shape of this particular volume. It is pitched at young readers and at adults reading aloud to them, and the publisher presents the books as suitable for giving.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller, publishing in Sinhala and English, with a substantial children's and educational list. For readers outside Sri Lanka, this is a chance to add a locally produced English-language picture book to a child's shelf.
