A model question-and-answer book for Buddha Dharmaya, one of the subjects taken at the GCE Ordinary Level examination in Sri Lanka. It belongs to the Gunasena Q&A series, which was developed after the Ordinary Level syllabus was revised and the shape and rhythm of the examination paper changed with it. The series sets out specimen questions in the form candidates now meet, with answers.
The text is entirely in Sinhala, which is the language of instruction for this subject in most Sri Lankan schools and the language of the examination paper itself. A reader without Sinhala will not be able to use it.
The volume was compiled by Gunasinghe Hemasiri, and the publisher describes the series as the work of scholars who prepared the material with care. It is intended for two groups: students preparing to sit the Ordinary Level examination in Buddha Dharmaya, and the teachers who take them through the subject in school.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller, with a substantial list of educational titles in Sinhala. Books of this kind are ordinary classroom and home-study material in Sri Lanka rather than general reading, and they are bought mainly for the examination year itself. Outside the island, they are of interest chiefly to Sri Lankan families abroad whose children follow the local syllabus, and to teachers and tutors working with it.
