A retelling of the familiar fairy tale for young children, part of the M.D. Gunasena Fairy Tales series. The story is the one most readers will already half-remember: a girl who lets herself into a house in the woods while its three bear residents are out, and tries their porridge, their chairs and their beds in turn.
Priyangwada Perera retells the tale in English, and the book is illustrated throughout. The series was put together with children in mind as a gift — something to be read aloud to a child still too young to read alone, or handed to one just beginning to manage a short book without help.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller, with a list that covers schoolbooks and children's titles in both Sinhala and English. The fairy tale series sits in that children's list, each book taking a single well-known story.
Suitable for a home shelf, a nursery or an early-years classroom, and for readers outside Sri Lanka who would like a children's book from a Sri Lankan publisher.
