Five fairy tales, retold in English and published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. as part of its Timeless Classics series. The series gathers stories that have been passed down through many generations of readers and presents them again for a new one, in editions prepared by the publisher's own house.
Fairy tales of this kind have travelled a long way from their origins, surviving through retelling rather than through any fixed text, and each generation that hears them meets them in a slightly different form. This volume is one such retelling, set out in straightforward English for readers coming to the stories early.
M. D. Gunasena is an established Colombo publisher with a long presence in Sri Lankan schoolbooks and general publishing in Sinhala and English. The Timeless Classics line sits alongside that work, offering familiar stories in simple editions for home and classroom reading. A useful addition for parents, teachers and anyone building a first English library for a child.
