One title from the First Explorer Series, an early learning collection from M. D. Gunasena & Co. aimed at very young children — toddlers and pre-schoolers who are just beginning to put names to the things they see.
Each book in the series takes a single first concept and builds it out through colourful, child-friendly illustrations. This one is about fruit: fruits from around the world, drawn in bright colour so that a child can point, name and recognise them. The intention is identification and vocabulary, with the added thread of healthy food choices running through the pictures.
The format is straightforward. There is no story to follow and no reading required, which makes it suitable for shared looking-and-naming between an adult and a child well before the child can read independently. The publisher describes the series as developing vocabulary, observation skills and confidence, and the books are built to be handled by small hands and returned to often.
