One title in the Dangakara Nuto series of Sinhala picture books for children, this one following Nuto and a bowl of mushroom soup. The premise running through the series is simple: children ask questions constantly, and those questions usually have answers worth taking seriously. The book takes the sort of thing a curious child wonders aloud and looks at it from a scientific angle, then puts the answer into plain, easy Sinhala pitched at a young reader rather than at the adult holding the book. Illustrations run throughout.
Nuwan Thotawaththa is a doctor by profession and writes for children alongside his medical work. He has written a number of children's books and also writes lyrics for children's songs, and his work has been put forward for awards.
Please note that the text is entirely in Sinhala. Buyers outside Sri Lanka ordering for a child who does not read Sinhala should bear that in mind, though the illustrations carry a good deal of the story and the book is often bought by Sinhala-speaking families abroad who want reading material in the language for children growing up elsewhere. It suits early readers, and reads aloud well for children who are not yet reading on their own.
