A retelling of the Cinderella story for young children, told in simple English and illustrated throughout in colour. It belongs to the Fairy Tale Classics series from M. D. Gunasena, a set of storybooks made for children in Sri Lanka, and is bound in hard covers.
The writing is by Priyangwada Perera. The approach is a straightforward one: the familiar story, set out plainly enough for a child who is beginning to read on their own, and open enough to be read aloud by a parent or teacher to someone younger. The pictures carry much of the telling, as they tend to in books at this level.
This suits a home bookshelf, a classroom reading corner or a first library for a child meeting the old fairy tales for the first time. Families abroad who want English storybooks published in Sri Lanka for their children will find it a modest, sturdy addition. M. D. Gunasena is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller, with a list that includes schoolbooks and children's titles in Sinhala and English.
