The Chandanalepa Ayurveda Beauty Bar is a bathing bar built around ten Ayurvedic herbs, manufactured to an age-old ayurvedic formula by Sanjeewaka Ayurvedic Products in Veyangoda, Sri Lanka. The Chandanalepa brand traces its origins to 1948, when an Ayurvedic practitioner in Veyangoda began working with traditional Sri Lankan botanical preparations. The brand name itself was formalised in 1993, and the house has since become Sri Lanka's leading ayurvedic cosmetics brand.
At the heart of the bar is a selection of eight named botanicals drawn from the classical South Asian herbal tradition. Sandalwood (Suduhandun) provides the bar's warm, woody character. Wild Turmeric (Kasthurikaha) — the species Curcuma aromatica, distinct from common kitchen turmeric — contributes its distinctive earthy note. Calumba Wood (Venivel), the yellow-heartwooded vine whose cut sections have long been traded across the Indian Ocean, sits alongside Vetiver (Sevendara), a deep-rooted perennial grass prized for its cool, smoky fragrance. The remaining herbs — Saussurea (Suwandakottan), Liquorice (Velmee), Neem (Kohomba), and Paperbark (Lothsumbulu) — complete a formula that brings together plants from Sri Lankan, Indian and South-East Asian herbal traditions.
The soap base is palm-derived: Sodium Palmate and Sodium Palm Kernelate, both saponified forms of palm oil and palm kernel oil, carry the herb powders and glycerin through every bar. Glycerin keeps the bar from stripping moisture; Disodium EDTA stabilises the formulation; Titanium Dioxide, permitted colours and fragrance round out the composition. The packaging confirms the bar does not contain animal fats.
The bar is available in two weights — 75 g and 100 g — making it practical to pack for travel or to keep as a regular bathroom staple. At 100 g, the packaging records a Total Fatty Matter of 60%, the proportion of fatty matter present at the point of packing. The bar is for external use only; if irritation or allergy occurs, use should be discontinued.
Chandanalepa markets this bar internationally under the name Ayurveda Beauty Bar, and the packaging carries a German language designation (Ayurveda Schönheitsseife) reflecting its export reach. For anyone interested in Sri Lankan herbal traditions in a familiar, everyday format, the bar offers a grounded and straightforward way to encounter those ingredients.
