About this experience
Step off the ship at Hambantota and into a waiting jeep — your private 4-hour safari begins with pickup directly at the port. Your English-speaking driver doubles as your tracker, guiding you through Bundala National Park, a UNESCO-listed wetland reserve in Sri Lanka's deep south. Over three hours inside the park, scan the lagoons and scrub for Greater Flamingos, elephants, crocodiles, and a remarkable variety of resident and migratory birds. Entrance tickets and a water bottle per person are included.
Bundala is compact but rewarding: shallow coastal lagoons draw hundreds of Greater Flamingos during the northern winter, and the dry-zone vegetation keeps wildlife visible year-round. The private format means the pace is yours — linger at a watering hole or track a crocodile at the water's edge without the pressure of a shared group. After the safari, your driver returns you to Hambantota Seaport in time for embarkation. Minimum age is 7.
