Whole cloves from Bowatte. Cloves are the dried, unopened flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum: dark brown and nail-shaped, with a strong, warm, sweet and pungent flavour.
How it is used
- Added whole to rice, biryani, curries and meat dishes while they cook
- Used in baking, mulled drinks and spiced tea
- Ground into garam masala, curry powders and other spice blends
Cloves are strong, so a few are usually enough for a dish.

Storage
Keep in a closed container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Whole cloves keep their flavour much longer than ground cloves.
