About this experience
Anawilundawa Sanctuary sits between Chilaw and Puttalam in Sri Lanka's North Western Province, wedged between the coast and the Chilaw–Puttalam railway line. Its rare position beside three distinct ecosystems — open coast, mangrove forest, and freshwater tanks — earns it RAMSAR Wetland status, one of only six in the country. That ecological variety draws hundreds of bird species, making it one of the most rewarding birdwatching destinations on the island.
Lakpura collects you from Colombo in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and brings you straight to the sanctuary with a knowledgeable guide who names every species, explains nesting behaviour, and directs your binoculars at the right moment. Entrance tickets are included. The full day runs approximately nine hours; children from age five are welcome. Gratuities and meals are your own arrangement.
