A Sinhala retelling, in abridged form, of a selection of tales from the Arabian Nights — the Middle Eastern story collection assembled during the period known as the Islamic Golden Age. The stories gathered under that title were written down by many hands across centuries, and this volume brings a number of them into Sinhala.
Among the tales included are Ali Baba and the thieves, Aladdin and the wonderful lamp, and the voyages of Sindbad — the episodes that have travelled furthest beyond the original collection and are recognised by readers who have never opened the Nights themselves.
The translation and adaptation are by Premasiri Mahingoda. The publisher is M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, an established Colombo house.
Please note: the entire text is in Sinhala. There is no English text in this volume. It will suit readers of Sinhala, families raising children in the language outside Sri Lanka, and anyone building a Sinhala-language children's or folk-tale shelf abroad. Readers who want these stories in English should look elsewhere.
