A children's title in English from the Animal Tales series, in which each book is given over to a single familiar animal. This one is about the rabbit.
The conceit of the series is a simple one: the animal speaks for itself, describing its own features and habits directly to the reader rather than being written about at a distance. The descriptions are kept simple, and the animals chosen are ones children are likely to have seen already. At the end of the book there is a section setting out some further information about the animal.
It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd of Colombo, an established Sri Lankan publishing house, and credited to Dolphine Press. The English is straightforward, which makes the series useful for young readers working in English at home or at school, whether reading alone or being read to.
For buyers outside Sri Lanka, this is the kind of locally produced children's book that rarely reaches shelves abroad — plain, inexpensive early reading of the sort Sri Lankan children grow up with.
