This is a children's story by Sybil Wettasinghe, the Sri Lankan artist and writer of children's stories. It first appeared in Sinhala; the edition sold here is the Tamil translation, published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co.
The whole book is in Tamil. Buyers outside Sri Lanka should order it only if they or the child they are buying for read Tamil — there is no English text alongside, and the title given here in Roman letters is a transliteration rather than a sign of an English version.
Wettasinghe wrote and drew for Sinhala readers over a long career, and her stories have been carried into Tamil so that children in Tamil-speaking households and schools in Sri Lanka can read them in their own language. That is the purpose this edition serves, and it is the reason to buy it: a Sri Lankan children's story in Tamil, from a Colombo publisher, for a young reader or for a collection of Sri Lankan children's writing in translation.
