A short picture story for children, set in large type and carried along by colour illustrations. It belongs to a later series of children's books by Sybil Wettasinghe, and is pitched at primary school readers — children who are reading on their own but still want pictures doing much of the work on the page.
Wettasinghe was a Sri Lankan writer and illustrator of children's books, and her drawing style — soft, warm, full of round faces and bright colour — is as much a part of her books as the stories themselves. Several generations of Sri Lankan children grew up with her work, and her titles remain in print in both Sinhala and English. This is the English text.
It is published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena, a long-established Sri Lankan house. For families abroad who want their children reading Sri Lankan stories in English, or for teachers and grandparents sending books home, this is the kind of title that suits a child just gaining confidence with a page of text: brief, clearly printed and illustrated throughout.
