Sanka Amarjith is a veteran Sri Lankan journalist, and this is a collection drawn from his own working life in the media. The incidents he sets down are ones he witnessed or took part in during that career, and he tells them in a satirical register rather than a reportorial one — the humour is the point as much as the events are.
The title translates roughly as "the book of no use", which gives a fair sense of the tone the author is going for. Readers who follow Sinhala-language journalism, or who simply enjoy comic writing about the trade from someone inside it, are the natural audience here.
One thing to be clear about before you order: this book is written entirely in Sinhala. There is no English text in it, and no parallel translation. If you do not read Sinhala, the book will not be usable to you.
It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, a long-established Colombo publishing house issuing books in Sinhala and English.
