A Sinhala-language guide to reading a birth chart. The book sets out how to arrive at a reading of a person's character and prospects from the way the planets sit in their horoscope, taking the chart itself as the starting point and working through what the placements are held to indicate.
It was compiled by Dr Piyasena Rathuwithana, an astrologer of long standing in the field, and published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co.
The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English edition or parallel translation, so it will be of use to readers who are comfortable reading Sinhala prose and working with astrological terms in that language. Buyers outside Sri Lanka should order on that basis.
Jyotisha as practised in Sri Lanka remains a working tradition rather than a historical curiosity, consulted for marriage, naming, travel and business decisions, and books of this kind are written for people who want to follow the reasoning behind a chart rather than simply receive a verdict on it. This one belongs to that practical shelf: a reference for the interested amateur who owns a horoscope and wants to understand what is being read from it, and for students approaching the subject through Sinhala sources.
