Vrishabha and Simha Porondam

Vrishabha (Taurus) and Simha (Leo) give different rashi-level porondam and porutham results depending on which partner holds which sign. Here the rashi means the Moon sign (chandra rashi) in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka, not the sun sign printed in newspapers. This page explains what the calculator finds at the rashi level and why the two birth stars matter most.

What does the rashi count show for Vrishabha and Simha?

The rashi count is taken from the bride's Moon sign to the groom's, counting the bride's own sign as one. With the bride in Vrishabha and the groom in Simha, the groom's sign is 4th from hers. The Sinhala porondam treats this as partly obtained, while the Tamil rasi porutham marks it as not obtained. In the reverse pairing, with the bride in Simha and the groom in Vrishabha, the count becomes 10, and both the Sinhala and Tamil systems record the rashi item as obtained. So the same two signs give a noticeably stronger rashi result when the bride is the Simha partner.

Do the rashi lords and vashya agree?

Vrishabha is ruled by Venus and Simha by the Sun. In the classical scheme these two lords are treated as mutual enemies, so the rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) items are not obtained in either direction. Vashya, which looks at a natural sense of attraction or mutual influence between the two signs, is also not obtained in both directions and in both systems. These outcomes are fixed by the signs themselves, so they stay the same whichever partner is in which sign. They are only a few items among many, however, and are read alongside the star-based items rather than on their own.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Each rashi spans nine nakshatra quarters (padas), giving 81 possible star-quarter combinations for any pair of signs. The full porondam and porutham are worked out from the two birth stars, so results vary widely within the same rashi pair. With the bride in Vrishabha and the groom in Simha, about 52% of combinations pass the Sinhala porondam (excluding the weekday item), while 58% fall in the weaker band of the Tamil count. With the bride in Simha, around 90% pass the Sinhala porondam and only 14% are weaker in Tamil. In both directions, none of the combinations reach 8 of 10 porutham, and about 4% show a Tamil rajju clash.

How should families use these results?

The rashi-level picture is a starting point, not a verdict. Two couples with the same Vrishabha and Simha pairing can receive quite different results once their actual birth stars are known. For a meaningful reading, enter both partners' full birth details, including date, exact time and place of birth, into the Lakpura porondam calculator, which identifies each person's Moon sign and nakshatra and works through every item. For any marriage decision, it is wise to take these results to a trusted family astrologer, who can consider the complete horoscopes, the weekday item and other factors a calculator summary cannot fully weigh. Matching is one consideration among many that families bring to such an important choice.
