Question 1

How much does it cost to send a 1 kg parcel from Sri Lanka to the UK via FedEx?

Accepted Answer

Rates vary depending on the service level chosen and current fuel surcharges. FedEx International Priority is faster and more expensive than FedEx International Economy. For a precise quote, use the FedEx Rate Finder tool on their official website, entering Sri Lanka as the origin and your specific destination postcode.

Question 2

How long does FedEx International Priority take from Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

FedEx International Priority typically delivers to major markets in Europe, North America and the Middle East within one to three business days from Sri Lanka. Delivery times to more remote destinations or countries with complex customs processes can be longer.

Question 3

Can I pay for FedEx shipping in USD or EUR from Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

FedEx rates from Sri Lanka are published in LKR, USD and EUR. Locally invoiced accounts are generally billed in LKR, while foreign corporate accounts or overseas buyers may be billed in USD or EUR. The applicable exchange rate is set by FedEx and may differ slightly from the interbank rate.

Question 4

What is volumetric weight and how does it affect FedEx shipping costs?

Accepted Answer

Volumetric weight is calculated from a package's length, width and height divided by a dimensional factor. FedEx charges whichever is higher — the actual scale weight or the volumetric weight. This means lightweight but bulky packages such as gift items, textiles or craft goods can cost more to ship than their scale weight alone would suggest.

Question 5

Do I need a customs invoice when shipping goods from Sri Lanka via FedEx?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A commercial invoice or pro-forma invoice is required for all international goods shipments. It must clearly state the contents, their value in the billing currency, the country of origin, and the Harmonised System (HS) code where required. Missing or inaccurate invoices are the most common cause of customs clearance delays.

Question 6

Can I ship Ceylon Tea or spices internationally via FedEx from Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Tea, spices and food products can generally be shipped via FedEx, but destination countries may require phytosanitary certificates or impose import restrictions on certain agricultural goods. Check the import regulations of your destination country before booking, and ensure all product labelling meets the relevant food standards.

Question 7

What is the difference between FedEx International Priority and FedEx International Economy?

Accepted Answer

FedEx International Priority offers faster, time-definite delivery — usually one to three business days to major markets — and is priced at a premium. FedEx International Economy is a lower-cost option with longer transit times, suitable for shipments that are not time-critical. Both services include customs clearance assistance and shipment tracking.
