Question 1

What is Argemone mexicana used for in Ayurveda?

Accepted Answer

In Ayurvedic tradition, Argemone mexicana is used for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties. Different parts of the plant — latex, leaves, roots, and seeds — are incorporated into classical preparations for skin conditions, fever, and infections. Any use should be guided by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Question 2

Is Argemone mexicana poisonous?

Accepted Answer

Argemone mexicana contains potent alkaloids, including sanguinarine, which can be toxic if consumed improperly. Raw seed oil in particular poses a risk of causing epidemic dropsy when ingested. Accepted Answer

Research into the plant's therapeutic potential is ongoing.
