Jetwing Thalahena Villa is a three-bedroom beachfront villa between the Negombo Lagoon and the Indian Ocean, about 7 kilometres from Colombo's airport. It stands on the coast where Jetwing's founder, Herbert Cooray, began the company, and it is run as a private house with a butler, a kitchen and a pool deck facing the sea.
The most important thing to know is that a Master Suite booking is treated as exclusive: while you are there, Jetwing does not take other bookings for the villa, so the house, the courtyard, the kitchen and the pool deck are yours alone. The suite sleeps up to three adults, or two adults with up to two children. The villa's two Deluxe Rooms (one twin, one queen) are not included in a Master Suite booking; if your group needs more beds, ask us about taking the whole villa, which sleeps up to seven.
The villa's chef cooks Sri Lankan and international dishes, served in an open-air courtyard dining area with heavy local woodwork that seats up to eight, at whatever time suits you, with dinner until 10pm. You can also eat in your room, take afternoon tea, or have dinner laid out on the pool deck. If you would rather cook, the villa has a fully equipped modern kitchen of its own.
A private butler looks after the house, and there is a living and dining area opening on to a courtyard, the kitchen, free Wi-Fi, parking, car rental, a left-luggage service and a doctor on call. Adult guests may also use the pool, gym and spa at Jetwing Lagoon Wellness, just across the road. Note that the villa cannot accommodate drivers or guides, so arrange their stay elsewhere.
Boat trips along the old Dutch Hamilton Canal lead into the Muthurajawela mangroves and wetlands, rich in birds and other wildlife. Negombo town, about 5 kilometres away in a straight line, has its Dutch fort, the churches that earn it the name Little Rome, among them St Sebastian's, and the busy fish market. Colombo is about 35 kilometres to the south for a day of sightseeing and shopping.
The villa is only minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport, about 7 kilometres away in a straight line, which makes it an easy first or last night in Sri Lanka. Jetwing puts Colombo about 35 kilometres away, around 30 minutes on the expressway. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Jetwing Thalahena Villa, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits couples and small families who want complete privacy near the airport, with a pool of their own and a butler rather than a hotel lobby, and friends who would like to cook together in a beach house.
