A Sinhala picture book for young children, written by Sybil Wettasinghe as one of a series of new children's story books from her. The text is entirely in Sinhala — there is no English in it — so it will suit a household where a child is reading Sinhala, or an adult who can read aloud in it.
It is a short book set in large type, intended for children in the primary grades who are beginning to read on their own, and it is illustrated in colour throughout. The pictures carry as much of the book as the words do, which is characteristic of Wettasinghe's work: she was a Sri Lankan writer and illustrator of children's books, drawing her own stories.
For families abroad raising children in Sinhala, books of this kind are the practical ones — simple enough to be finished in a sitting, printed clearly enough for small eyes, and attractive enough that a child will come back to them. It is published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co.
