Kanya and Vrischika Porondam

AI द्वारा निर्मित छवि · वास्तविक तस्वीर नहीं

Kanya (Virgo) and Vrischika (Scorpio) sit two signs apart, so the result depends on which partner holds which sign. This page sets out what the site's calculator finds at the rashi level in each direction. It also explains why the two birth stars, not the signs alone, decide the real match.

Which rashi does this page mean?

In Sri Lankan marriage matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi). This is the sign the Moon occupied at birth in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so someone who reads as Virgo in a magazine may have a quite different chandra rashi.

Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham both look at three rashi-level items for a couple: the rashi count between the two signs, the relationship between the two rashi lords, and vashya, a traditional measure of mutual attraction between signs. Because counting runs from the bride's sign to the groom's, a Kanya and Vrischika pairing gives different results depending on who holds which sign.

How does it look with a Kanya bride and a Vrischika groom?

Counting from Kanya to Vrischika gives 3. In the Sinhala system, rashi porondam is partly obtained. In the Tamil system, rasi porutham is not obtained.

The rashi lords are Mercury for Kanya and Mars for Vrischika. Traditionally one regards the other as neutral and the other is hostile in return, so they are not counted as friends. Rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) are therefore both not obtained.

Vashya is not obtained in either system for this direction. These are only the sign-level items, though. The full outcome still rests on the two birth stars, as explained below.

What changes with a Vrischika bride and a Kanya groom?

Reversing the pair changes the count. From Vrischika to Kanya it is 11. Rashi porondam in the Sinhala system and rasi porutham in the Tamil system are both obtained.

The rashi lords are still Mars and Mercury, and their relationship is still neutral on one side and hostile on the other. Rashyadhipathi and rasi adhipathi therefore remain not obtained.

Vashya differs between the two traditions here. It is not obtained in the Sinhala reckoning but obtained in the Tamil vasya porutham. This shows that each system applies its own rules, which is why families sometimes hear different verdicts for the same couple.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Each moon sign spans parts of three nakshatras. Taken quarter by quarter, a pairing of two signs allows 81 possible star combinations. Most porondam and porutham items depend on those stars, so outcomes vary widely within one pair of signs.

With a Kanya bride and Vrischika groom, 74% of combinations pass Sinhala porondam (leaving the weekday aside). None reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams, and all are classed as weak on the Tamil count.

With a Vrischika bride and Kanya groom, 100% pass Sinhala porondam on the same basis. 32% reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams, and only 4% are weak. In neither direction did any combination show a Tamil rajju clash.
