Accepted Answer

Blepharis integrifolia is used in traditional ayurvedic medicine across South Asia, including Sri Lanka. It is associated with diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and tonic properties, and has historically been incorporated into compound herbal formulations for conditions such as fever and urinary tract issues. Any medicinal use should be guided by a qualified ayurvedic practitioner.

Question 2

Question 3

Is Blepharis integrifolia an endemic plant in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Blepharis integrifolia is not endemic to Sri Lanka. The species is distributed across tropical and subtropical regions of South Asia and beyond. However, it is formally recognised as part of Sri Lanka's official ayurvedic medicinal plant catalogue.

Question 4

What family does Blepharis integrifolia belong to?

Accepted Answer

Question 5

Are there scientific studies on Blepharis integrifolia?

Accepted Answer

Preliminary research has examined the phytochemical profile and biological activity of Blepharis species, including potential antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Clinical evidence for specific human health applications remains limited, and much of the current interest is exploratory, bridging traditional knowledge with modern pharmacology.

Question 6

How is ayurvedic plant medicine regulated in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Sri Lanka's ayurvedic system is overseen by the Department of Ayurveda and the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine, which regulate standards for practice, herbal preparations, and medicinal plant use. The country maintains an official catalogue of recognised ayurvedic plants, in which Blepharis integrifolia is included.

Question 7
