About this experience
Step into an air-conditioned vehicle from your Dambulla hotel and head north to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's ancient capital for over a millennium. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide walks you through the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi — one of the oldest documented trees in the world — and on to Thuparamaya, the island's first dagoba. Each site tells a layer of the city's extraordinary story, stretching back more than two thousand years.
The route also takes in the Aukana Buddha Statue, a precisely carved 12-metre standing figure that remains one of the finest pieces of ancient Sri Lankan sculpture. The full day runs approximately 10 hours, and this is a private tour, so the pace suits you. Hotel pickup, drop-off, transport, and a litre of water per person are included. Entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are arranged separately.
