Blue Beach Hotel is a small beachfront hotel in Wadduwa, on the west coast of Sri Lanka south of Colombo. It has just thirteen units, 10 Deluxe Rooms, 2 Executive Suites and a Family Apartment, and every one of them has a balcony looking out to sea. With an outdoor pool, a seafood restaurant beside the beach and Ayurvedic treatments on site, it suits couples and families who want a quiet, personal stay by the ocean.
The hotel stands at No 18, Mada Patumaga Road, Thalpitiya, at the northern end of Wadduwa, directly on the beach between the Indian Ocean and the coastal railway line. Pinwatte Station is about 0.6 km away and Wadduwa Station about 2.3 km, both on the coastal line between Colombo and Galle, while Panadura Station is about 3.8 km to the north. From the balconies and the beach there are clear views west over the sea, which makes the evenings here a good time for watching the sun go down.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the hotel by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the hotel in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Blue Beach Hotel.
The hotel lists three kinds of accommodation: 10 Deluxe Rooms, 2 Executive Suites and one Family Apartment, the last suited to parents travelling with children. All of them have a sea-view balcony, and rooms come with tea and coffee making facilities. Room service is available if you would rather eat in.
Fish Tail is the hotel's outdoor restaurant, specialising in seafood and set in the open air close to the sea. The hotel also has a bar serving tea, coffee and cocktails, so you can settle in with a drink as the sun sets over the ocean.
Most days here are spent between the beach and the outdoor pool, with Sri Lankan Ayurvedic treatments given at the hotel by experienced Ayurvedic practitioners. Wadduwa itself is a quiet beach town, and further along the coast lie the turtle hatcheries of the south-west, the historic city of Galle with its fort, and Mirissa, the base for whale-watching trips in season. Colombo is close enough for a day of shopping and sightseeing, and Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the hotel.
