Rockery Villa, which also trades as Rockery Villa Ayurveda, is a small guest house in Bentota on Sri Lanka's south-west coast, built around a landscaped tropical garden with an outdoor pool. It has its own Ayurveda treatment centre, so many guests come for a stay that mixes beach days with traditional treatments.
The villa stands on Galle Road at Alawathugoda in Bentota, close to the town centre and about 0.8 km from Bentota railway station on the coastal line between Colombo and Galle. Bentota Beach is a short walk away, roughly 650 m by the listings, and Aluthgama station is about 1.7 km to the north. Bandaranaike International Airport lies 85 km away as the crow flies.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 110 km from the villa by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the Southern Expressway usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Rockery Villa.
The rooms look out over the garden and come as doubles, triples and suites. Each is air-conditioned, with tiled floors, a four-poster bed with a mosquito net, a wardrobe, a desk, a refrigerator, a flat-screen TV and a safety deposit box, plus a private balcony and an en-suite bathroom with a shower.
The in-house Ayurveda centre offers treatments and massages, and the outdoor pool sits in the garden with loungers around it. Breakfast is served each morning, there is a restaurant and room service, and the villa has a 24-hour front desk, laundry service, free Wi-Fi in the public areas, free parking, barbecue facilities and bicycles to hire.
Bentota Beach and the Bentota River are the main draws, with water sports along the coast and boat rides into the river's mangroves. Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, and Brief Garden, created by his brother Bevis, are both close by. Further along the coast are the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda, the Madu River with its mangrove islands and Galle Fort, an easy day trip. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the villa.
