Apsara Villa is a private three-bedroom villa on the banks of the Bentota River, rented as a whole house with its own staff. The tropical garden runs down to the water, with a swimming pool and a private jetty, and the view across the river takes in mangroves and coconut palms. It suits a family or a small group who want a quiet riverside base a few minutes from the beach.
The villa stands in Seeni Watta, a small riverside village on the Bentota River on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, about five minutes inland from Bentota town and its beach. Local markets, shops and restaurants are within walking distance, the beach can also be reached by boat from the villa's own jetty, and Galle is about an hour's drive to the south.
The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) to the villa usually takes around two hours on the expressways, depending on traffic around Colombo. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Apsara Villa.
The three double bedrooms are set around a central courtyard, each with a four-poster bed, an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning and fitted wardrobes, and the master bedroom has a safe. The open-plan living and dining area has a television with a DVD library, an iPod dock, books and board games, and the kitchen is fully equipped. There is complimentary Wi-Fi and a washing machine and dryer for longer stays.
An in-house chef is included and prepares meals on request, a manager is on hand at the villa, and further staff look after the house and grounds. The living areas open onto the pool terrace and the garden, which runs down to the river.
The river is the main attraction: boat trips into the mangroves, fishing, kayaking, water-skiing, wakeboarding and jet skiing can all be arranged on the river, with the villa's own jetty for boats, and the garden itself draws kingfishers, eagles and monitor lizards. Along the coast there is surfing, snorkelling and diving, cycle tours through the villages, temple visits, spa treatments and, in season, whale watching further south. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours from the villa.
