Lakro Manual Coconut Scraper (LCS-006)

من$22.00

This hand-cranked coconut scraper does the same job as the old Sri Lankan hiramanaya without the low stool or the floor space. It holds itself to a worktop with a suction base, and you turn a crank instead of dragging the nut over a fixed blade. Hold half a coconut against the toothed stainless steel head, wind the handle, and the white flesh comes away as fine shreds onto a plate below. It needs no electricity, so it works anywhere and in a power cut.

What arrives. The scraper ships in the Regnis carton shown in the photographs: "Regnis Coconut Scraper for modern pantry", model RCS-03, with a vacuum base, marketed in Sri Lanka by Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC. The scraper is lime green with a white crank and spindle, and carries a Regnis badge on the front.

How it is built.

  • Vacuum base — a strong rubber suction foot, locked down by the lever on top. Nothing is screwed or clamped to your worktop, so it leaves no marks and moves from one surface to another in seconds.
  • Stainless steel scraping head — a serrated, star-shaped blade on the end of the spindle, with a plastic cap to cover it when not in use.
  • Shaft with ball bearing — so the crank turns smoothly under the pressure of a hard, mature nut.
  • Non-corrosive body — plastic throughout apart from the blade, so it can be wiped down after every use without rusting.

Where it works. A suction base needs a smooth, flat, non-porous surface: glazed tile, laminate, glass, stone or a sealed worktop. It will not hold on rough wood, textured stone or grout lines. Wipe the surface and the rubber foot clean before you lock it down. A damp foot often grips better than a dry one.

Using it. Set the scraper on the worktop and press the lever down to lock the base. Take off the blade cap. Hold the half nut squarely against the head and turn the crank steadily, working from the rim of the flesh towards the centre. Let the shreds fall onto a plate or into a bowl underneath. To move or put away the scraper, release the lever before you lift it. When you have finished, rinse and dry the blade, refit the cap, and keep it out of children's reach. The blade is sharp.

Use it for pol sambol, mallung, coconut roti, pittu, sweets and fresh coconut milk, in any kitchen where an electric machine would be overkill. For everyday volume, the Lakro Domestic Electric Coconut Scraper does the cranking for you.
