A picture book for young children, written and illustrated by Sybil Wettasinghe and published in English by M. D. Gunasena & Co. of Colombo. It belongs to a series of large letter books she made for the youngest readers — titles set in oversized type, so that a child beginning to recognise words can follow the text on the page while an adult reads aloud, or attempt it alone.
Sybil Wettasinghe was a Sri Lankan author and illustrator who worked in children's books across a long career, drawing as well as writing, and her pictures are as much the substance of her books as the words. Her work is widely read by Sri Lankan children in both Sinhala and English.
Suited to reading-aloud at home, to early classroom use, and to parents abroad who want their children to meet Sri Lankan storytelling and illustration in English.
