Travel from Negombo to Ratnapura on a private 7-hour excursion dedicated to Sri Lanka's legendary gem trade. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you from your hotel and drives you in an air-conditioned vehicle through the lush hill country to the island's gemstone capital. On arrival, step into the Gem Museum to see precious and semi-precious stones — Sapphires, Rubies, and Amethysts among them — displayed alongside the cutting tools and techniques that define the industry.
Beyond the museum, explore the working gem mines that have made Ratnapura famous for centuries. Watch miners sift alluvial gravel and gain a firsthand understanding of how these stones travel from the earth to the jeweller's bench. A bottle of water is provided per person. Entrance fees, food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. Minimum age for this tour is 11 years.
