Vrishabha and Makara Porondam

صورة من إنشاء الذكاء الاصطناعي · ليست صورة فوتوغرافية حقيقية

Vrishabha (Taurus) and Makara (Capricorn) are a pairing many Sri Lankan families ask about, and the rashi-level picture changes depending on which partner holds which sign. This page explains what the Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham calculations show for this pair in both directions. It also explains why the two birth stars, not the signs alone, decide the real match.

Which rashi is being matched here?

In Sri Lankan marriage matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi), the sign the Moon occupied at birth, read in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so someone who calls themselves a Taurus in Western terms may have a quite different chandra rashi.

At rashi level, three items are checked: the rashi count from the bride's sign to the groom's, the relationship between the two rashi lords, and vashya. Counting from Vrishabha to Makara gives 9, while counting from Makara back to Vrishabha gives 5. That difference is why the results depend on who is the bride and who is the groom.

What happens with a Vrishabha bride and a Makara groom?

With the bride in Vrishabha and the groom in Makara, the count from bride to groom is 9. The calculator marks the rashi item as obtained in both the Sinhala porondam and the Tamil porutham.

The rashi lords are Venus for Vrishabha and Saturn for Makara, and the two are mutual friends. So rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) are both obtained.

Vashya (vasya in Tamil) is not obtained in this direction. Overall, two of the three rashi-level items are obtained here, which is a helpful starting point, though the birth stars still need to be checked.

What changes with a Makara bride and a Vrishabha groom?

Reversing the roles, with the bride in Makara and the groom in Vrishabha, the count from bride to groom becomes 5. In this direction the calculator marks the rashi item as not obtained in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems.

The lords are still Saturn and Venus, and because they are mutual friends, the rashi lord item remains obtained in both systems.

Vashya is again not obtained. So in this direction one of the three rashi-level items is obtained. This shows clearly why families should always note which partner holds which sign, rather than treating Vrishabha and Makara as a single fixed result.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Most porondam and porutham items depend on the two birth stars (nakshatra) and their quarters. Each sign pairing allows 81 star-quarter combinations, and the outcomes vary widely.

With a Vrishabha bride and Makara groom, about 95% of combinations pass the Sinhala porondam (setting aside the weekday item), and 25% reach 8 of 10 Tamil porutham. With a Makara bride and Vrishabha groom, about 53% pass the Sinhala check and none reach 8 of 10.

In both directions, around 51% rate weak in the Tamil system and 36% show a Tamil rajju clash. Only the actual stars tell you where a couple sits, so use the calculator with full birth details.
