Question 2

Accepted Answer

Hiripitiya is roughly 100 to 120 kilometres from central Colombo by road, a drive that typically takes around two to two and a half hours depending on traffic conditions. Travelling from Bandaranaike International Airport near Negombo is somewhat shorter.

Question 3

What is near Hiripitiya for tourists?

Accepted Answer

Wilpattu National Park is the closest major attraction, offering safari drives through one of Sri Lanka's wildest ecosystems. The Cultural Triangle — including Sigiriya, Dambulla, and Anuradhapura — is also accessible within an hour or two to the north-east.

Question 4

Can I arrange a private transfer to Hiripitiya through Lakpura?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Lakpura arranges private transfers to and from Hiripitiya on request, covering routes from Colombo Airport, central Colombo, and other destinations across Sri Lanka. Fares are quoted per route at the time of booking.

Question 5

Is Hiripitiya a good base for a Wilpattu National Park safari?

Accepted Answer

Hiripitiya is close to the general direction of Wilpattu but is not the primary gateway town. Most visitors heading to Wilpattu stay at lodges nearer the park entrance or in Puttalam to the north-west. Hiripitiya can serve as a pass-through point on a longer itinerary.

Question 6

What is the best time to visit Wilpattu National Park near Hiripitiya?

Accepted Answer

The dry season from around May to September is generally considered the best period for wildlife viewing at Wilpattu, as lower water levels concentrate animals around the park's natural lakes. The park remains open year-round, though tracks can become difficult after heavy rainfall.

Question 7
