Lavendish Hills Kandy is a modern hillside hotel on Old Matale Road, about 1.5 km from the Temple of the Tooth, with balconies over Kandy's hills or the city. Run by Lavendish Leisure, it sits above the centre of Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage city, close enough for the temple and the lake yet away from the noise of the streets.
There is one category to book with us, and the name below is the one you will see when you book.
Our rate takes up to three adults, or two adults with up to two children. The hotel also has larger suites of around 42 square metres, with a separate sitting or dining area and a big balcony over the pool, the mountains or the city, sleeping three in a queen or king bed and a single; they are not part of our standard rate, so ask us if you would like one.
The hotel has a swimming pool, and an upper-floor lounge with glass walls and a terrace that look out across the wooded hills around Kandy, a pleasant place for a drink at sunset. Room service is available, the rooms are cleaned daily and there is security around the clock. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the holiest shrines in the Buddhist world, is about 1.5 kilometres away in a straight line, beside Kandy Lake and with the forest of Udawatta Kele rising behind it. On another hill above the city, the 88-foot (27-metre) white Buddha of Bahirawakanda Vihara has wide views over Kandy and the surrounding ranges. The Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, laid out as a botanic garden in 1821 on a former royal garden, are a short drive away, and the spice gardens in the hills around Kandy offer guided walks among cinnamon, cardamom, pepper and nutmeg. Further out, near Gampola, Ambuluwawa Tower has a narrow spiral stair to a famous viewpoint. If you visit in July or August, the ten-day Esala Perahera fills the city's streets with one of Asia's great processions.
Yes. Kandy Railway Station, on the main line from Colombo, is in the town centre, a short tuk-tuk ride from the hotel.
The hotel is about 84 kilometres from Bandaranaike International Airport in a straight line, and the road climbs into the hills for the last part of the journey. The easiest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Lavendish Hills Kandy, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits couples, families and business travellers who want a modern, quiet room with a view and a pool within easy reach of Kandy's temples and sights, rather than a hotel in the busy centre. Two nights gives time for the Temple of the Tooth and the botanical gardens. For more choice see our places to stay in Kandy, or the other Lavendish Leisure hotels around the island.
