About this experience
Set out from Kandy on this private 13-hour tour that combines a waterfall hike with a visit to Dambana, home of the Veddah — Sri Lanka's indigenous community who have hunted and farmed this forested land for centuries. Your experienced guide leads you through the wilderness to the village, where you step into a small museum displaying fishing and hunting tools the Veddah have relied on across generations. It is an unhurried, close-up look at a way of life that remains remarkably unchanged.
Along the route you are welcomed at a village house, Gama Gedara, with a traditional drink, and receive two organic energy drinks to keep you going on the trail. A traditional village lunch is included, and you leave with a handmade gift from a local pottery village. All taxes and service charges are covered. Minimum age is five, and the tour runs in English. Gratuities and personal expenses are not included.
