This is a Sinhala translation of Three Years, the work of fiction by Anton Chekhov, prepared by Premaranjith Thilakaratne and issued by the Colombo publisher M. D. Gunasena & Co. The whole book is in Sinhala — there is no English text in it — so it will suit readers of Sinhala rather than those approaching Chekhov in English.
Chekhov's novel is one of his longer pieces of prose fiction, and it takes a sceptical view of the idea of social progress as it stood in the Russian society of his day. Thilakaratne's version carries that work into Sinhala for readers who prefer their Russian fiction in their own language.
