This is a colouring book, and it is in Sinhala. Both the story text and the line drawings come from Sybil Wettasinghe's Uda Giya Baba, reworked by her publisher into a form a child can read and then colour in.
The idea behind the series is simple: a child reads the story, pictures it, and then puts colour to the drawings that go with it. Several of Wettasinghe's children's stories have been adapted this way by M. D. Gunasena, and this title takes its pictures and its narrative directly from her original work.
Sybil Wettasinghe was a Sri Lankan author and illustrator of children's books, who wrote and drew in Sinhala for generations of young readers on the island. Her drawing style — rounded figures, village settings, plenty of open space — carries over into the colouring pages here.
For overseas buyers, the practical point is the language. The text is Sinhala throughout, with no English translation, so a reader who does not have Sinhala will be working from the pictures alone. Families raising children in Sinhala abroad, Sinhala-language classrooms and supplementary schools, and collectors of Wettasinghe's work are the natural readers for it. The colouring itself, of course, needs no language at all.
