A colouring book for children, drawn from Sybil Wettasinghe's own story Piduru Pala. Both the pictures and the text here come from that original work, reset so that a child reads the story and then colours the drawings that go with it. It belongs to a series in which Wettasinghe's popular story books have been reworked into this form.
The text is in Sinhala throughout, which matters if you are ordering from outside Sri Lanka — there is no English version of the story within these pages. For Sinhala-speaking families abroad, that is often the point: it gives a young reader something to do with the language beyond reading aloud.
Sybil Wettasinghe wrote and illustrated for Sri Lankan children across a long career, and her line drawings are familiar to generations who grew up with them. Seeing those same figures arrive uncoloured, waiting to be filled in, puts the child somewhere between reader and illustrator.
