Gal Oya Lodge is an intimate eco-retreat set in 25 acres of private forest on the western fringe of Gal Oya National Park, one of Sri Lanka's least-visited wildernesses. Just eleven stone-and-timber bungalows and a two-bedroom villa are scattered discreetly through the trees, giving the whole property the feel of a secluded jungle hideaway well away from the modern world.
The park is best known for its boat safaris on the Senanayake Samudraya reservoir — the only place in Sri Lanka where you can watch herds of elephants swim between islands — as well as jeep safaris where you may have the sightings entirely to yourself. Resident naturalists also lead guided village and forest walks, cycling routes, and cultural encounters with the indigenous Vedda community whose ancestral lands surround the park.
With its unhurried pace, warm and knowledgeable team, and a setting of exceptional natural beauty, Gal Oya Lodge is equally rewarding as a base for immersive wildlife experiences or simply as a blissfully quiet place to unwind.
