3 Sisters Beach House is a three-bedroom beachfront villa just outside Matara on the south coast, built as a family holiday home and named to keep three sisters connected to Sri Lanka. It has a quiet beach of its own, a large garden and pool, Dutch-inspired architecture and a butler and cook to look after you. Matara town is under ten minutes’ drive; Colombo Airport is about two and a half to three hours.
Whether you take one room or all three, the villa, garden and pool are yours alone. It sleeps up to eight: the Loft is an ocean-view room with a double and two single beds; the Poolside Room opens to the pool and garden; and the Courtyard Room is the most private. All three are air-conditioned, with Wi-Fi.
The resident chef cooks Sri Lankan curries, fresh seafood and Western favourites from an à la carte menu, served on the wide verandah or in the garden to the sound of the waves. The villa is fully catered – there is no self-catering.
The beach in front is friendly for beginner surfers, with a surf shack next door, and in the winter months it is lovely for swimming. Mirissa, Weligama and the bay at Hiriketiya are close by. In Matara itself are the old Matara Fort and the Star Fort, and to the east the Hummanaya blowhole sends sea water high into the air.
The villa is child-friendly, with open lawns and a pool. There is no driver accommodation on site, but the team can arrange a room nearby.
