About this experience
This private boat tour departs Trincomalee Harbour at 6.00am, when seas are calmest, with a marine mammal naturalist aboard throughout. The run out to deep water takes about an hour, as Trincomalee's natural harbour drops quickly onto the continental shelf, putting blue whales and sperm whales within reach of a short crossing. On calm days schools of dolphins often join the boat. Your naturalist points out a blue whale's rolling surface, a sperm whale's angled blow before diving, or a fin breaking the water, and talks you through what you're seeing.
The boat keeps a safe distance from any animal spotted, cutting speed and engine noise as it approaches, with your closest approach around 100 feet. The deck is reserved for your group alone, with all safety equipment and a litre of bottled water per person provided. Children aged five and up are welcome. Tickets, food, drink and gratuities are not included.
