About this experience
Head out from your hotel in Dambulla in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and reach Wasgamuwa National Park — one of Sri Lanka's less-visited yet richly biodiverse reserves. The park shelters a wide range of displaced fauna alongside dense riverine forest, scrubland, and wetland habitats. A complimentary bottle of water is provided for the journey, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included throughout.
Once inside the park, transfer to a jeep and spend time scanning the landscape for elephants, leopards, sloth bears, buffalo, and the many bird species that inhabit the reserve. Your driver-guide navigates the safari tracks over the course of this seven-hour private excursion. Note that entrance tickets, meals, and gratuities are not included, so carry local currency for the park gate. Minimum age for this tour is five years.

Very quiet park but its a long drive in.
Only 7 jeeps in the park the whole day. We found it good for birds but less so for anything other than the common creatures. Good number of open spaces.
There appears to be only one gate in from the south and its a long…

Relaxed morning
We were traveling with the driver Shameera. He speaks a bit of German and has a lot of experience as he has been touring for 10 years. He told us a lot about the animals. It was a nice morning!

A real alternative to the other parks, but beware: elephant attacks keep happening here
A really scenic park with a number of smaller elephant herds. However, attacks by the grey giants are really commonplace here, especially a cow likes to target the jeeps. With a knowledgeable jeep driver, however, this i…
