Waharaka Una Peniya (28ml) is a small boxed herbal syrup from Waharaka Hela Osu, a Sri Lankan maker based in Homagama. Peniya is the Sinhala word for a syrup or treacle, and this one comes in a compact carton printed in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
The ingredients printed on the carton are short: an extract of bamboo shoot and palmyra sugar. Palmyra sugar is a palm sugar made from the sap of the palmyra palm, and it gives the preparation its sweet syrup base.
The carton is a cheerful green, illustrated with stems of bamboo, a stone mortar and pestle and a scatter of fresh roots and herbs, with the name written out in flowing Sinhala script. It is manufactured and distributed by Waharaka Hela Osu Nipaum (Pvt) Ltd of Homagama, is marked as made in Sri Lanka and carries a product registration number on its side panel.
Each pack holds 28ml. The directions for use are printed on the carton in all three languages, so please read them there before use. Waharaka Una Peniya is offered as a traditional preparation, not as a medicine.
